My first memory as a child is of drawing – and I haven’t
stopped since – and when I discovered paint, and colour
I found, and still do, enormous joy from this. I scored the highest
mark ever recorded for GCE at my school and won a place and a
major county award (exceptional for a London college from Essex
County Council then) to the Slade School of Fine Art, London University
at the age of eighteen. I was nominated one of the five most promising
artists in my year.
I was awarded a postgraduate diploma in education at the Institute
of Education, London University and taught art in Uganda for 3.5
years. On my return to England I set up classes for adult art
education and lectured part time in further education in Gloucester
and Cheltenham. I was awarded a Diploma in Art Psychotherapy at
Goldsmiths, London University and at present work part time for
the NHS Mental Health in that capacity.
At present I am part of the artists’ studios complex in
Cheltenham and find this a stimulating and supportive environment
for creativity.
