Ann Hulme
studied at Stoke-on-Trent College of Art followed by a BA in Fine
Art at Leicester Polytechnic. She has been a part-time lecturer
and tutor at colleges in Gloucestershire and
Monmouthshire, giving her as much time as possible to paint.
Ann says: ‘I like to work with the idea
of time passing, painting change. You can change atmosphere through
paint – a colour can move an eye, a hand and a gesture can
change the meaning. I like ambiguity. Sometimes you know what
you are doing, you can sometimes verbalise what a painting or
a series is about at the surface, but underneath where does it
come from, why are you interested in it – that’s the
intriguing part, we don’t know’.
