As an art historian Alistair has curated international exhibitions and published extensively on art in several languages, mainly on the history of photography. Recently he has transferred his experiences as an artist into storytelling performances. As an artist he exhibits as a painter, printmaker and photographer using subject matter which ranges from landscape and architecture to figurative work, both abstract and representational. A significant aspect is a preoccupation with the Spirit of Place. He has exhibited widely in the UK, Europe and the USA and is represented in collections world wide. In 2000 he was elected Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers ‘in recognition of services to the art of printmaking’.
